WESTFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
5K RUN FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Race History
The
Tradition Begins...
And Continues

On a beautiful spring morning over 150 people ran in the first annual Westfield High School 5k run for scholarships. The pace was set by first place winner was Ted Poulos who finished in 16:14 . Our own local runner, Colin Chapman took second in 16:15. The women’s race was won by Laura Freix of Centreville in 18:28 . Second place finisher was Monique Farah in 19:36. A children’s fun dash was held at the completion of the 5K. The young ones enjoyed a short fun run to the finish line where they all received ribbons. The scrumptious after race goodies were enjoyed by all while the raffle took place . The lucky winners were thrilled with their prizes to local restaurants.
It's been 5 years since the first WHS 5k run for scholarships was held in the Spring of 2001. We have had tremendous support and results from each one of the races. Thanks to our very generous sponsors and participants, the event has raised over 40 thousand dollars in scholarship awards for WHS graduates! We have had some changes over the brief history of the race. In 2004, instead of sunny weather, it was pouring! The participants did not seem to mind one bit. Last year, we moved the race from the Spring to the Fall last year to coincide with the WHS homecoming week. This year, the race for scholarships for the class of 2008 is being held on Sat, April 5th, 2008 at 8am. We hope you will join us!
