Parents of Students with Emotional Disabilities - Join our parent-run Internet support group. If you live in Fairfax County and have a child with the ED label, or a child who is being considered for that special education label, please join us in an Email discussion group to share our experiences and discuss educational issues.
For over five years, dozens of parents and guardians from across the
county have been having lively, confidential discussions about school
issues. Our children are in all grades and levels of service. We can be
a tremendous resource for you and hope you will share your experiences
with us.

The Evaluation, Eligibility, and Placement Procedures for Special Education
Here you can find information about workshops offered by the Parents Resource Center, electronic versions of various parent handbooks and special education forms, information about summer camps, a special education tutor list, and view test questions and sample items from Virginia SOLs. There is also access to a listing of web sites of interest to special education parents.
US Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs is dedicated to improving results for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities ages birth through 21 by providing leadership and financial support to assist states and local districts.
IDEA authorizes formula grants to states, and discretionary grants to institutions of higher education and other non-profit organizations to support research, demonstrations, technical assistance and dissemination, technology and personnel development and parent-training and information centers.
This site answers a need in education for in-depth, timely news related to educating students with disabilities. The Web site and newsletter are journalistic publications centered on the news of the special education field. The Web site is also designed to offer unique resources to special education professionals in one convenient place. These include places for educators and others to exchange their views, find links to important information at other sites on the Web and keep track of news and events across the country.

to experience college life in a supportive environment.
Federal Resource Center for Special Education The Federal Resource Center for Special Education (FRC) is a five-year contract between the
Academy for Educational Development (AED), its partner, the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE), and the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.
The FRC supports a nationwide technical assistance network to respond to the needs of students with disabilities, especially students from under-represented populations. Through its work with the RRCs and the technical assistance networks, the FRC provides a national perspective for establishing technical assistance activities within and across regions by identifying and synthesizing emerging issues and trends.
In addition, the FRC works with the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to plan national conferences of education professionals, with the object of communicating OSEP priorities and promoting positive systemic change in special education programs across the nation.
Virginia Council of Administrators of Special Education (VCASE) is organized to promote professional leadership, provide opportunity for the study of problems common to its members, and to communicate through discussions and publications information that will develop improved services for children with disabilities.
Integrated Technology Services (ITS)
Offering in-services to FCPS staff and parents which cover a variety of
assistive technology (AT) issues faced in today’s classroom as well as the use
and integration of software programs and devices in the instructional setting.
While these assistive technology in-services have an "instructional" focus,
sessions will be offered at the Community conference, hosted by the Department
of Special Services Office of Special Education, in the spring which have a
"home" focus (more information on this to follow). All sessions are open on a
space available basis.

Parenting Resources for the 21st Century
Links parents and other adults responsible for the care of a child with information on issues covering the full spectrum of parenting. This site, federally sponsored through the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention which strives to help families meet the formidable challenges of raising a child today by addressing topics that include school violence, child development, home schooling, organized sports, child abuse, and the juvenile justice system.
SNOW -- Special Needs Opportunity Windows The Special Needs Opportunity Windows or SNOW Project is a provider of online resources and professional development opportunities for educators and parents of students with special needs. Our online workshops, curriculum materials, open discussion forums and other resources are available to assist you in using new technologies to benefit all of your learners.
