SOPHOMORE ETHICS SEMINAR

Chair: Aimee Lowry (Ethics Day)

Ethics Day is Monday, November 21, 2011 from 8:00 am until 1:30 pm at the Westfield Marriott. Adult facilitators are an important part of this annual event where sophomores experience meaningful ethical discussions while challenging their decision- making skills. Lunch provided. Please consider giving your time to our Westfield students. Sign up online!

Each fall, Westfield High School engages sophomore students in a daylong ethics seminar held at the Westfield Marriott. The students are broken into groups and assigned table leaders who guide the students through a variety of ethical decision making dilemmas. A mock trial is also held which is presided over by an active judge. Through these activities, the students begin an in depth journey into making decisions where the answers are not necessarily clear cut. In this day and age of ethical scandals such as those uncovered at Enron, students will begin to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to carry them successfully into adulthood and beyond.

Last year, a wonderful Thanksgiving Day feast was prepared and served to all participants by the Westfield Marriott staff! This seminar requires approximately 70 adults to act as table leaders and active participants. We have been fortunate to have many members of our business community participate as well as PTSA members! The PTSA is looking to you to volunteer your time at this event.
