Did you know that everyone benefits when a parent is involved, regardless to their economic status, culture, language or education…
- ACE - Academic Celebration of Excellence, the Academic Boosters branch of the PTSA. It deals with honor roll (3x yearly reception) and handling of scholarship awards at the end of the school year. There is an ACE Award Celebration sometime in the fall recognizing achievement of 3.75 GPA kids and higher. This is for 10th, 11th and 12th grades. The position Interfaces a lot with the guidance department and their new Director of Student Services, Harry Wolin. There could be some changes with honor roll recognitions due to the grading scale changes If involved, you would have the opportunity to give feedback about anything you'd like to change! We currently have a new chairperson, Cathy Pisarsik, but need additional committee members to help out.
- Bulldog Cafe (during back to school nights) September 22(11& 12 grades) September 30 (9&10grades) We need at least 2 parents for each night (not your students back to school night) to order, purchase, set up and sell pizza, subs, and drinks to teachers and parents in the cafeteria. You're done with it all that night. For example if you have a 9th or 10th grader, we'd suggest you the 9/22 night for the older classes...Order quantities are already in a notebook from the previous 9 years, including contact info for the restaurants used. It is probably the best way to see a lot of people and one of the easier volunteer jobs, since it is a one shot deal and you don't have to work with a huge committee, AND it is a job that is so appreciated by the teachers since that is their only way to have time to grab something to eat for the Back to School Night, since most of them stay the whole day and are exhausted.
- Reflections -You'd oversee the fall art contest within county and state guidelines- gets word out especially through the art department to encourage kids to participate- through various mediums- literature, art, photography, dance, etc. It would involve advertising, talking to kids, stimulating interest, getting a small group volunteers to judge the work, and handling the awards. In the past, if we couldn't find a chairperson, we couldn't offer the opportunity for the kids.
- Legislative - Disseminating legislative information and arousing interest as it pertains to educational issues. The PTA maintains continues to maintain a non-partisan stance and don't support any individual political candidates or party.
- FCCPTA Rep- Attend once monthly PTA meetings at the county level, in the evening, representing WHS interests and reporting back to our membership.
- After Prom Party - Canceled last year due to lack of chair. Ideal for Senior Parent.
- Parent Programs - Gets and coordinates any programs to have at school to help parents. Some potential programs are already being lined up. We also work with the Westfield Community Coalition for parent/student programs aimed at substance abuse prevention and other issues affecting our teens.
- Ethics Day- Held on Monday, November 23 at the Westfield Marriot for 10th graders. We need a couple parents to coordinate parent and business/community volunteers during the month of Nov. and then help out the day of the event, working with the Assistant Principal and business community.
- Mulch Day Chair- Major fundraiser for All Night Grad Party. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2010. There is a dotted line relationship to ANGP chair since they impact each financially and are separate from the PTSA activities. ANGP is totally self supporting, has its own budget and bank account separate from the regular PTSA budget and account.
- Landscape -Sprucing up the front grounds of school and time permitting the courtyards, and working with student and adult volunteers with clean-up. We contract out for some of this through a local landscaping company.
- Silent Auction- Help is needed to solicit donations from local businesses for the Silent Auction as well as help on the evening of 9/1 at the BBQ for the Silent Auction. Please contact us if you can help out. Back to School packet stuffing and packet distribution at the Bulldog BBQ- Adult volunteers are needed to assist in set up on in the school library. Adult and student volunteers are needed Friday, August 28 from 8am to 4pm. Rising 9th-12th grade students are welcome to get much needed service hours. Contact Aimee Lowry (Volunteer Coord). Help is also needed to set up the cafeteria and hand out student packets at the Bulldog BBQ on September 1. This is a great way to meet other Westfield parents and students in a relaxed atmosphere.
