Here are several updates from the PTSA and several groups around WHS:
- PLEASE HELP support WHS by volunteering for a 2014-2015 WHS PTSA vacancy! The time commitment varies for each position with some being minimal and others needing a little more time. The following positions are available: 2nd Vice President (year long), Special Education Chair (year long—work with Special Ed Department Chair), Membership Chair (spurts of business), Directory Chair (early in school year), Bulldog BBQ Co-Chair (summer—NEEDED asap), Legislative Representative (year long), and Parent Programs Coordinator (2 events per year). Please consider donating a little of your time to helping make Westfield a success! Rising 9th grade parents are encouraged and invited to volunteer – what a great way to get to know the school.
- Personalized SOL Schedules were distributed to all students earlier this week during the 7th period classes. Please avoid appointments during SOLs.
- 4th Quarter Interims were distributed earlier this week.
- PROM TICKET SALES: Thank you to everyone who volunteered to sell prom tickets. If you see this on Friday, 5/23, and are available, one or two more people are needed today. Volunteers also needed the night of Prom to help with check in. Volunteer times and signs ups are available at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/whsbulldog
- Prom is May 30th. TODAY IS LAST DAY TO BUY TICKETS!! To purchase a ticket, students cannot have unpaid fines or financial obligations. If a student is purchasing a companion/date ticket, that second student also cannot have any fines or unpaid financial obligations. If a student wishes to bring a non-WHS person, a permission form must be completed and approved prior to the student purchasing a ticket. Forms are available in the main office or at http://www.fcps.edu/WestfieldHS/students/seniors/prompermission.pdf
- The Westfield Sports Physical Night is scheduled for Monday, June 16th. This is a great way to get your student’s VHSL physical for the 2014-2015 school year and it supports the awesome Athletic Training Department! To register, visit http://www.fcps.edu/supt/activities/atp/ppe/register-athlete.shtml
- ANGP Tickets: The price is now $70 per ticket, with the next price increase set for June 1st. This is a “will call” event – no physical ticket will be given to your student. As long as your student’s name is listed on the PTSA website (see link below), your student will be expected between 11:15 pm and midnight at the event. A volunteer will call the parent of any student who does not Parents: please remember to complete the Risk Forms. Copies are in the main office and on the PTSA website at ptsa.westfieldhs.org under the ANGP ticket tab. Everyone must have the forms completed, even if they are 18 years old. Contact Jeannie Donahue with questions at jr.donahue@verizon.net To see the list of who has purchased a ticket so far, visit: http://ptsa.westfieldhs.org/students/see-who-is-coming-to-the-party.html
- Senior Parents: There will be a drawing for all students whose ANGP ticket is purchased by May 31st. The drawing is for a $50 Visa Gift Card! Save money by purchasing before the next price increase AND be entered into the drawing! You can also save by printing the forms and sending in a check ($70) instead of paying online ($72 – Paypal Fee). The choice is yours but this is an option.
- Changing school start times is being discussed again by the School Board and FCPS. Please be informed and get involved. There are pros and cons to both sides of the issue. According to Sully School Board Representative Kathy Smith, one of the four options currently listed will be approved, at a cost of several million dollars ($2MM to $7MM, depending on the approved plan – according to FCPS published information). Please be a voice for your opinion of the issue. Let all members of the School Board know your thoughts. For more information on the four possible changes to the FCPS start time schedule, please visit http://www.fcps.edu/news/starttimes.shtml
- Community meetings to discuss the proposed start time changes will be held between May 19th and June 11th with the closest to WHS and June 11th at Centreville HS. Dates and times are posted at: FCPS Announces Community Meetings on School Start Times
- Online Survey about start time changes: FCPS offers an online survey regarding the changing start times. Visit fcps.edu or https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/starttimes to take the survey.
- Staff/Teacher Appreciation Lunch: A thank you luncheon, sponsored by the PTSA, is being planned for Westfield teachers and staff. A request will be made soon for donations of salads and desserts. Please watch for this request so we can honor and thank our awesome Westfield staff members!
- Budget Impacts at Westfield: Due to budget shortfalls, there will be several changes at Westfield next year. Class sizes will increase, several teaching positions have been eliminated, and the attendance office will be closed, to name a few. This has been an extremely difficult budget season, to say the least. Parent support will be more important than ever next year. Please be involved.
- Ordering from AMAZON? Please go to the PTSA website and click on the Amazon link that is on the right side of the page, about half-way down. Once you click, you’ll be taken to Amazon and can order as usual. A percentage of your order total will be donated to the WHS PTSA – at no cost to you! Thank you for your support of this “silent fundraiser” set up by our Ways and Means Chairperson, Bhavani Koneru!
- Class of 2018 Bulldog Bootcamp registration is ongoing. Information available at: http://www.fcps.edu/WestfieldHS/academics/summerassignments/summerassign/bootcamp.pdf
