With spring break right around the corner and many warm days to enjoy, we will find ourselves at the end of the 3rd quarter on March 30th.  It has been a busy year so far, with many more activities to come. Your PTSA has been very busy.  Have you recently gone to our web site to see our new design?  If not, please take a minute and check it out at  http://ptsa.westfieldhs.org/

This Thursday, March 29th at 7:00 pm, the Westfield Pyramid Counselors are sponsoring a parent program for our entire pyramid to be held at Westfield High School.  The subject of the program is "Just Focus 5 Things Parents Can Do to Increase Student Willpower".  Please join us in the auditorium for this valuable and fun program.

Our Minority Achievement Committee has been busy. They recently held a parent coffee at London Towne Elementary school.  The program was designed to help inform the parents at London Towne and our future Bulldogs of the skills necessary to succeed at Westfield.  A panel of our students participated in the parent coffee and answered questions for the students and parents in attendance. Special thanks to our student panel members Carmela Mitchell, Christian Ventura, Carolina Sosa, Juan Castro Castillo and Taylor Young. Also a thank you to Milan Coleman, Hilda Ventura and Tim Thomas for taking your time to coordinate this effort.

The PTSA sponsored All Night Grad Party Mulch sale has begun.  Mulch can be ordered from our PTSA web site at http://ptsa.westfieldhs.org/mulch-order-form.html. The mulch sale is the primary fund raiser for the All Night Grad party. This is a great community event and is not just for parents and seniors. (after all, everyone will have a senior at some point)  We need the entire school to help. So please take a couple of hours on Saturday, April 14th and come and help us with this important fund raising event.  You can register to help on our web site.

The planning for the All Night Grad party for the Class of 2012 is well underway. The event being held the night of graduation, June 18th starting at 11:30 pm is being held at Fast Eddies in Centreville. This is a great night of fun for all the seniors. By having this party we can keep our children safe on this important night.

The PTSA recently helped organize the senior class "90 Days Until Graduation" meeting on March 22nd.  The meeting gave seniors and their parents a chance to pay fees, learn details about graduation, prom and the All Night Grad party.

On February 4th our PTSA held a practice SAT/ACT test.  This test gives students a chance to try both the SAT and ACT tests before they have to actually take them. The fee associated with the test also includes a review  session for parents and students to better understand what the scores of their students test mean.  We will once again offer this test in early 2013, so please plan to participate. Our thanks to Cathy Pisarcik, Kelly Roberts and Marjorie Willard for all their help in making this event such a success.

Volunteers are needed to serve on the Nomination Committee to help fill vacant PTSA positions for next year. If you are interested in serving on this committee or would be interested in being on a committee or co-chairing a position this coming year, please contact me at ptsa_president@westfieldhs.org  Parent volunteers are also needed to serve on the PTSA Scholarship Committee during the late April and May. We ask that parents with seniors not serve on this committee.

Enjoy spring break.  Please email me with any questions or comments you may have.

Mary Coleman, PTSA President
