Hope everyone had a great summer! The PTSA has been updating their calendar for the upcoming year and getting ready for the annual Bulldog BBQ and Silent Auction.  Check out our web site. Students continue to register for the school year and we are just over 2,900 students.  That number will continue to change as families move into the area during the beginning of school. Thank you to the incredibly quick thinking, energetic group of dedicated WHS parents who helped us pull off the best last minute All Night Grad celebration ever for our 2010 grads, at Fast Eddies of Centreville, in spite of Disney/ESPN's  cancellation.  I could not have said it any better than Veronica Delaney, who wrote an awesome synopsis for the Centreview which says it all.

Volunteers make it all happen at Westfield!  The best way to make a big school feel smaller and to aid in your student's adjustment is to get involved in their school.  Join the PTSA and the booster club in the area that your child participates in -whether it is band, chorus, guitar, orchestra, theatre, or athletics. Being in touch with school, knowing what’s going on and getting to know other parents is a way of building a strong support system for our kids. One benefit of attending such a large school is that there is always something going on. The Bulldog BBQ will give you the chance to get information about a lot of programs.  Check out the school web site http://www.fcps.edu/WestfieldHS/ under STUDENTS to get more information about activities and routines.

Congratulations to Suzanne Olijar and Kym Sunday, winners of our PTSA Volunteer award for this past year. Both ladies have shared their energy and creative juices though their extensive involvement with the PTSA over the past four years and they have continued to streamline many aspects of our volunteer efforts by systematizing things and reducing paper flow.  Both ladies names are on a plaque in the main office.  Also, congrats go to Alana Heng, our former Web Master and Newsletter chair- her newsletter won a statewide award at our Virginia Convention.  Way to go Alana! Although she has officially "graduated" with her kids, Alana has agreed to mentor and consult with us.  Hopefully we can get up to her level of expertise!   We are still trying to fill various PTSA position vacancies for the upcoming year including Legislative, Fairfax County PTA Rep, All Night Grad, Mulch Day Chair, and Silent Auction.  If you can fulfill any of these positions or have questions, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. There are plenty of other volunteer opportunities coming up as the start of school is our "busy season". Volunteering is a great way to not only help out the school, especially in times of budget reductions, but also meet other parents, teachers and set a positive example for your child. You'd be surprised what you find out from other parents...The majority of our volunteers have "real jobs" so if you've only got a couple hours to give us, we'll take it!   It also sets the tone for your student that you believe their education is important.  For your added convenience, a PayPal account has been created so you can join the PTSA, buy your student directory, and donate to the Bulldog Bankroll - all on line! Visit membership page more information.  We welcome your support and look forward a great school year ahead!

Sincerely,
Jennifer Campbell WHS PTSA President
