President's Message
October 2013
I would like to take a moment to update you on the PTSA and other miscellaneous happenings around the school.
The PTSA website, www.ptsa.westfieldhs.org and the school’s main webpage contain valuable information. Please bookmark the websites and check them often. Also, please “like” us on Facebook. You can find us at Westfield High School PTSA.
We have several “silent fundraisers” that happen through the year. Please register your Giant card with the A+ program. Our code is: 03798. Also, the Harris Teeter program code is 8134. Target’s Redcard program code is 116684. Office Depot’s is 70115288. And, we are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Amazon! Soon, all you’ll have to do is click on the link on our website to go directly to Amazon. Any purchases that you make after linking through our page will result in a 4% donation. Thank you for helping us support WHS students and staff through the silent fundraisers!
We are pleased to report that our membership numbers are growing! Thank you to everyone who has already joined. Congratulations to Kyle Rollins, the winner of the drawing for the Kindle Fire HD! If you haven’t yet joined, we hope that you will. You can join online via our website or you can obtain a membership form on the website, in the main office at school, or request one via emailing our membership chair, Pam Murdoch, at membership@westfieldhs.org . Our goal is to help all students reach their potential by working alongside the school in any way possible. We offer grant opportunities for teachers and parent programs at both the PTSA meetings and along with the Student Services Department throughout the year. We support many events and activities throughout the year, which will be included on our website and our Facebook page.
Please note that any senior interested in applying for one of the PTSA Academic Celebration of Excellence scholarships should join (or have a family member join) the PTSA by the end of the first semester.
Please check out the scholarship page on the PTSA website. Throughout the year, scholarship opportunities will be posted. One to note: the Virginia PTA Citizenship Essay Contest is open until February 1, 2014. The topic this year is: “Effecting Change…Starting with ME!”
Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the 10th grade vision and hearing screening go smoothly. Jackie Green, WHS’s clinic aide, did a great job organizing everything. Clinic volunteers are still needed. Please email Jacqueline.Brazier@fairfaxcounty.gov with questions.
We would like to thank our principal, Tim Thomas, for an informative presentation on the state of Westfield. There were many positive points and a few areas that everyone is working hard to address. Please support our teachers, staff and students as they strive for success for everyone!
The student directory is going to print and will be distributed soon to those who purchased one. They will be sent home via your student’s 7th period teacher. There will be a few extras. If you missed ordering one, the extras will be sold on a first come, first served basis at $10 each.
Congratulations to all music students and parents for a successful Tag Day! If you haven’t had a chance to support the music department, please consider a tax deductible contribution to the WHS Music Boosters. Congratulations to the Field Hockey team on their district championship! Good luck to the other fall teams that are still competing! Good luck to the band as they enter their final competition weekend. The Theatre’s production of Twelfth Night will be presented on November 22 through 24. Best wishes from the PTSA to all other students as they compete and represent WHS in an amazing variety of activities!
